Marc Riboud was born in 1923 in Saint-Genis-Laval near Lyon. He first started taking photographs in 1937 with a small vest pocket Kodak given to him for his birthday by his father. During World War II he was active in the French Resistance. When the war ended he studied at the École Centrale de Lyon. He traveled all around the world photographing the daily lives of the locals. His most visited locations were Asia, Africa and America.
